Sacramento-Clay cable car no. 19, known coloquially as Big 19, was operating the Hyde Ride,
the special three day a week summer service along Hyde, Washington, and Jackson Sts.
For its last trip of the day, it was decided to allow a special set of trips to anyone who
could meet up by the Washington-Mason barn. Big 19 ran out to Hyde, to Aquatic Park, reversed on
the crossover, went back to Powell Street, went out Jackson to reverse at Hyde to visit California
St. The car ran out California to Van Ness Ave. and then in to Drumm St., then back out to
turn at Hyde and pull into the car barn via the Jackson reversing track. It was a most
enjoyable trip seeing and meeting fellow transit fans who did show up for the ride along with
others that boarded along California.
Before going to Mason Street, though, I rode BART to the City with a few AC Transit buses in the
yard. After alighting at Embarcadero, I went to the F line and recorded shots of original streetcar no. 1.
It was supposed to be training operators in advance of Heritage Weekend, but a problem with the
supplemental battery power unit for operating the controller disabled the car at Embarcadero and Don Chee Way.
Nikon D5600 and Samsung Galaxy A54 5G cameras yielded 175 photos.
